The origin story

Apheros was founded in 2023 as an ETH Zürich spin-off, originating from the PhD research in materials science by co-founder Julia Carpenter. Since then, we have grown into a commercially focused deep-tech company, backed by leading Swiss innovation institutions and VCs.

To achieve our goals, investing in the right people is critical. Our team combines not only exceptionally strong academic and industry expertise, but exemplary soft skills such as resilience, a collaborative mindset, and ownership. Representing a company culture that values individual perspectives and ideas, we aim to keep hiring motivated people who fit well into this environment.

From a technical point of view, the team spans people across materials science, mechanical engineering, simulations, electrochemistry, and business development, with academic backgrounds ranging from ETH Zürich to institutions across Europe.

The company is led by two co-founders with complementary expertise spanning fundamental materials research, deep tech commercialization, and technology transfer, bringing decades of combined experience from ETH Zürich, Sorbonne University, and the University of St. Gallen.

Our work is further strengthened by an advisory board that spans venture capital, academic research, and senior industrial leadership across materials, energy, and commercial scaling.
