Coating & Process Industrialization Expert – High Performance Liquid Cooling Solutions

Join our team to play a pivotal role in driving the scale-up and industrialization of our ultra porous metal foams.

We are seeking an experienced Coating and Process Industrialization Expert, bringing their wet coating knowledge to adapt and scale our current manufacturing processes for thin film production.

This role requires deep understanding of particle chemistry, coating uniformity, and thermal post-processing to achieve large-scale ultra-porous metallic films and foams. You will be instrumental in scaling our processes for high-volume production of large parts, directly impacting our products' performance, cost, and time-to-market.

Coating & Process Industrialization Expert application

About apheros:

We are a startup pioneering metal foam-based cooling solutions for AI-servers and more. Our materials are integrated into cooling solutions for both single and two-phase direct-to-chip liquid cooling - enabling better performance, hotspot management, and energy savings.

Our team is built on curiosity, collaboration, and a shared drive to craft a sustainable future - while having fun along the way! Our offices, labs, and pilot line are close to the train station in Baden, Switzerland, and fully stocked with coffee and cake.

What you will do:

  • Adapt and optimize apheros unique processes using wet coating techniques (e.g., blade coating, bar coating, or spray coating) to achieve large-scale production of ultra porous metal films and foams
  • Establish precise QA/QC protocols to consistently produce uniform films and foams, with thicknesses ranging from tens of microns to millimeters
  • Adapt, optimize, and industrialize thermal post-processing steps (e.g., drying, curing, sintering) to ensure consistent mechanical, thermal, and structural properties of apheros ultra porous materials
  • Transition R&D/pilot scale to full industrial production volumes for large-area products
  • Establish practical, effective QC/QA protocols for the final material structure
  • Collaborate closely with R&D and Engineering teams, acting as the internal expert on coating processes, QA/QC of thin films, and manufacturability

What we are looking for:

  • 3 to 5 years of industry experience in developing and scaling wet coating processes (e.g., blade, bar, slot die, or spray coating) for materials development
  • Expertise in coating particle-based formulations (slurries, inks, suspensions) and understanding the impact of coating uniformity on final material structure
  • Proven track record in successfully scaling thin film coating processes (micron-to-millimeter range) for large surfaces from pilot to industrial manufacturing
  • Knowledge and practical experience with thermal post-processing steps (e.g., sintering, curing)
  • A pragmatic, results-driven mindset, and the ability to define practical quality standards (QC/QA) for processes and materials

What sets you apart:

  • Advanced technical understanding of coating methods and industrial scaling
  • Prior experience working with slurries, suspensions, foams, or inks in an industrial context
  • Knowledge of materials supply-chain
  • Experience in materials industries focused on highly porous materials, such as catalysis, foam manufacturing, advance coatings for batteries, or porous heat exchangers
  • Strong alignment with a collaborative, and dynamic culture

What we offer:

  • High autonomy to drive process scaling and implementation of QA/QC
  • A commitment to mutual support, continuous learning, and direct, constructive feedback to help you develop and grow with the company
  • Flexible work arrangements supporting work-life balance
